All of my books are clean – I promise that you won’t find “spice” in any of my stories!
Still, I want to make a quick note of any content that could be potentially too mature for younger readers, or even things that you as an adult may not feel comfortable reading.
This information will never be fully exhaustive, but I will do my best to update it to the best of my ability and share anything that may impact a person’s decision as to whether or not my books are for them. =)
I will try to avoid large spoilers, so if there is anything you need more information on, I am always just an email away.
Magnify (Storm & Spire Book 1):
I would recommend this book to ages 16+ due to mature themes, but for many families it could comfortably be read by younger teens, especially if parents were available to discuss certain elements.
Mature themes include discussion of suicidal thoughts, parental and sibling death, and brief mentions of sexual assault. This book contains some magical creatures (dragons/dwarves/elves) but no “witchcraft style” magic. Later books in the series contain somewhat more magical elements, but they are always handled from a Biblical perspective (not glorified). There is typical fantasy violence – some blood, wounds, etc, but not anything overly gruesome in my estimation.
In one scene two characters dress up in the clothing of the opposite sex for plot reasons. It is not presented as anything relating to transgenderism or the like. There is one very, very mild sexual innuendo. Other than that, there is zero sexual content and no on page swearing (perhaps one or two uses of ‘bastard’ used in the historical manner).
Majesty (Storm & Spire Book 2):
I would recommend this book to ages 16+ due to mature themes, but for many families it could comfortably be read by younger teens, especially if parents were available to discuss certain elements.
Mature themes include discussion/recollection of parental and sibling death, and a fair bit discussion/ things related to sexual assault (see spoiler section if this is a big concern for you!). This book contains magical creatures (dragons/dwarves/elves) and some use of clearly evil magic by villain characters. Magic is handled from a Biblical perspective (not glorified). There is typical fantasy violence – some blood, wounds, etc, but not anything overly gruesome in my estimation.
***SEMI-SPOILER****
This book contains a near sexual-assault scene with multiple assailants, including non-sexual violence toward a female character.
Maelstrom (Storm & Spire Book 3):
This book has similar content to books one and two, recommended for ages 16+. There are also more mentions of magic in this book, including the use of magic by one of the heroes in the story. The magic used in this series is always painted as something dark and dangerous that should not be used, and characters have to grapple with tough decisions about whether the ends can ever justify the means.
There is one kiss scene in this book where one character undoes the top button of the male character’s shirt, but it is stopped immediately and the characters discuss the serious implications of physical affection in relationships.
Maker (Storm & Spire Book 4):
This book continues in the same vein as the first 3 books in the series with no major changes in content. Recommended 16+.
Manifest (Storm & Spire Book 5):
This book continues in the same vein as the first 3 books in the series with no major changes in content. Recommended 16+.
